By addressing immediate needs such as food, shelter, and identification, while also providing long-term support services, the Foundation seeks to reduce barriers that prevent individuals from rebuilding their lives. Our programs aim to restore hope, encourage self-sufficiency, and foster a stronger, more inclusive community for all.

Founded by Marlon D. Gaines Sr., a trusted community barber and owner of Cuttinup Barbershop in Mobile, Alabama for over 25 years, the Cuttinup Barbershop Community Development Center was born from a simple yet powerful belief: a haircut can do more than change how someone looks—it can restore dignity and hope.
Through decades of service, Marlon Gaines witnessed firsthand the deeper needs within his community. Many individuals were not only seeking a fresh start in appearance, but also facing challenges such as lack of basic necessities, proper identification, and safe, stable shelter. Moved by compassion and a commitment to serve beyond the chair, he established the Foundation to meet those needs in meaningful ways.
Today, the Foundation provides food, shelter, identification assistance, and holistic support—empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, and renewed purpose.
